Seeking to improve access to Boston and Logan Airport for residents of his district, Congressman Tierney continues to work diligently to secure federal funding for extending the Blue Line to Lynn.

He, along with Senators Kennedy and Kerry, sought federal funds to first explore and determine the best improvements for the North Shore Corridor area, and then to contribute partial construction funding. He was proud to help secure a $50 million authorization (the first such federal commitment in the more than 30-year quest) in the Transportation Equity Act of the 21st Century (TEA-21), which was approved in the 105th Congress. Congressman Tierney then worked to have the Blue Line extension project included in the most recent transportation reauthorization bill entitled the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU), which was enacted in 2005.
