Implementing the 9/11 Commission's Recommendations

In the first 100 legislative hours of the 110th Congress, John has sponsored and voted in favor of legislation implementing the 9/11 Commission’s recommendations.

This bill, which was subsequently been signed into law, takes a number of steps to protect our country. In fact, the law requires, within five years, 100% scanning of U.S.-bound shipping containers and requires, within three years, 100% screening of cargo on passenger aircraft. The law also takes important steps to strengthen the Nunn-Lugar program, which secures nuclear material in the former Soviet Union.
