Art Competition

Dear Friend:

I am pleased to announce that I am once again hosting this year’s Sixth District Congressional High School Art Competition and Exhibition at the Montserrat College of Art in the Montserrat Gallery located on the second floor of the Hardie Building at 23 Essex Street, Beverly, Massachusetts. The exhibition will be open for public viewing from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on May 14-17. A closing awards presentation will be held on Saturday, May 17th at 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Joining me this year in recognizing the area’s most talented young artists will be the President of Montserrat College of Art, Helena J. Sturnick, Ph.D., as well as Mike Powers, District Manager for the Massachusetts District of the United States Postal Service. The Grand Award Winner will receive a scholarship to Montserrat’s pre-college summer program, and Mr. Powers will provide students the option to have their artwork displayed at their hometown branches of the Postal Service.

The Sixth District Congressional High School Art Competition and Exhibition is a juried art show open to high school students from the public and private high schools within the thirty-six communities of the Massachusetts Sixth Congressional District.

At the conclusion of the exhibition, the work of the Grand Award Winner will be sent to the United States Capitol Building where it will be displayed for one year, along with other district award winners from around the country. The winning student, accompanied by one adult, will be invited to attend the opening of that exhibition in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday, June 25, 2008. The Grand Award Winner will also receive three roundtrip tickets to Washington, D.C. to support his/her attendance at the opening of the national exhibition.

Should you have questions, please contact Lori Pattison in my district office at (978) 531-1669.

I hope to see you at this annual event.

Sincerely,

John F. Tierney
Member of Congress
