Strengthen Election Reform
Congressman Tierney has worked tirelessly to stop the flood of special interest money that is overwhelming the political system. In 2009, Congressman Tierney led an effort to limit the impact of special interests on elections even before the Supreme Court's ruling in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission opened the floodgates to most expensive midterm elections in this country's history. His Clean Money, Clean Elections Act, which had bipartisan support, created a voluntary public financing system giving candidates an option to forgo private funding without having to undermine their ability to run a competitive campaign. It would have allowed qualified candidates to run for public office without compromising their independence, since they would not have to ask for money from those with a vested interest in public policy.
Congressman Tierney will continue his fight against the influence of special interests in this country's elections.
